The redesign of the lobby was intended to create an updated, well-lit space to provide the building with a stronger presence in its downtown location. By removing elements that had been added in previous renovations, the original wood paneling becomes a feature element, speaking to the building’s history.
The lobby of One Winthrop Square was once a dark and uninviting space with black slate floors, low light levels and aged-wood paneling. Our design team’s careful introduction of contemporary stone floors, glass rails and updated lighting brought new life to this space. All of the existing woodwork was repaired, restained and refinished. The introduction of LED panel lights into the wood columns flanking the main entry reduce their visual weight and add drama to the building’s entry sequence. A new relocated stone and millwork reception desk opposite the original ornate wood fireplace add balance to the overall space.
